As we all know,
the COVID -19 outbreak has brought the world to a standstill. Lockdown is
implemented everywhere by the respective governments to dent the spread of the
deadly virus forcing us all to mandatorily stay at home (very important, please
be at home). Never in our lifetime, especially for us, the millennials, have we
faced such an unforeseen scenario as a result of which almost all of us are
going through a rough phase and finding it challenging to deal with the abrupt
change in lifestyle. In this context, I aim to jot down certain things we can
engage ourselves in to keep our anxiety and boredom at bay.
Spend quality time with family– Our daily hectic schedule doesn’t allow us to spend time with our
beloved family members. Now you are presented with the opportunity to stay at
home 24/7, you can make it enjoyable with family members around you. Try to
involve yourself as much as you can in family discussions. Focus on spreading
laughter and taking the same in return. If you have grandparents at home, spend
time caring for them which can help you learn many things from their life
experiences and would strengthen your bond with them.
Make dishes at home–
You probably can’t disagree with me that most of us are foodies but when it
comes to preparing a dish, we step back, most of the time due to time
constraints. So now that we have ample time to learn to cook and experiment
with various dishes, why not try your hand at it?
Yoga, exercise and detox-In the course of the lockdown, it is very important to keep
ourselves as much as fit as possible. Choose a suitable place in your home or
the terrace and spend at least an hour every day to exercise and do yoga which
will improve your immunity and prevent you from unnecessary weight gain.
Read good books and novels– How can you travel to various places without moving an inch? Yes,
by reading and reading more. You can select storytelling books, novels,
science-fictional novels or any other genres of your choice and develop a habit
of reading them. It will expand your intellectual ability and multiply your
wisdom by many folds.
Play indoor games/old games– Create teams consisting of your family members and play indoor
games like ludo, chess, carrom, card games, etc. By this, you will be taken
down the memory lane to those happy days and would get to consume some quality
time with your family members.
Watch movies and TV shows– Good movies can change our lives for the better. They are morale
boosters and one of the topmost mood lifters. Watch movies and TV shows with
your family and experience something new. Don’t forget to Netflix and chill.
Listen to music and practice dance– Music heals and pleases a pressured mind. Make your playlist of
favourite songs and keep playing them on the loop. Dance to the melodious
music, let your mind divert from the real world stress for some time.
Learn a new language– Utilize this quarantine to learn a new language which will give
you an edge over the others. You can opt for online classes and apps that offer
an easy way to learn a new language. It’s not only fun; they add a lot of value
to your professional life as you can also add this to your resume.
Learn new techniques and skills from the internet– The internet is one of the coolest things you can take advantage
of during the current situation. YouTube is a wonderful platform to learn new
techniques and skills like a variety of food recipes, play an instrument,
online courses to boost your career, etc. All you need is a good internet
connection.
Take up painting and DIY crafts– Painting helps in the expression of mind and is a great stress
buster. You may sketch, draw or paint and let your ideas flow and your soul
wander through the colours. Create decors for your home by cutting papers;
mount boards, etc. as per the availability.
To wrap up, it is our job to keep our minds off
various negative thoughts and anxiety in this time of distress and uncertainty.
So let’s make hay while the sun is shining to discover our hidden talents and
effectively spend the time by staying at home. As Napoleon Hill said, “Every
adversity brings with it a seed of equal or greater opportunityâ€.
