  • To demonstrate a substantial understanding of concepts in key areas of computer science.
  • To carry out the required analysis and synthesis involved in computer systems, information systems and computer applications.
  • To demonstrate professional competence in developing software and in its design and implementation.
  • To develop sound practical skills to enable them to address problems which arise from computer systems and applications.

MCA is a 3 years full time Degree Programme. The students can specialize in various fields in the last year of their course. Students can choose any four of one of the
following subjects in their 5th semester as per the course combinations available in the syllabus.
. System Administration 2 and Linux
. System Administration 2 and Linux
. Advanced UNIX programming
. Compiler Design
. E-Commerce
. Distributed database management
. Image Processing
. Parallel Programming

As part from these electives, students can also choose one practical elective subject and participate in major project & seminar.

Programmes for computers contain information and detailed instructions that computers must follow in order to perform all of their functions. Professionals with a computer programming degree are needed to write, test, and maintain these detailed commands. Computer programmes range from very simple ones that only take a few hours to write to very complex programs that take more than a year to finish. After the design process is complete and all of the specifications are met, individuals with a computer programming degree convert it into a logical series of instructions and commands that the Computers can follow.

The programmer would then code these instructions into a computer programming language. Computer programmers may also perform duties such as re-writing, updating, repairing, modifying, and expanding computer programs that already exist. After writing or changing a computer program, the programmers must test the programme to ensure that all instructions are correct. If there are errors, the computer programmer must make the appropriate change and then recheck the program until it produces correct information.
Job Prospects and Career Options
After successful completion of Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) & Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) degree, the students are proficient enough to work in many different fields including, inter alia, Computer programmers, financial & insurance sectors, and educational institutions and in various jobs available in Government Sectors. The top level IT companies and consultancy firms like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, IBM, NIIT, Oracle etc offer great job opportunities to a candidate having MCA degree. In this era of computers, the candidates find various opportunities in large corporations having an in-house systems department. They also get appointed at various IT companies as a System Developer, Application Developer, Computer System Support Manager, Network Manager, Web-site Developer, Database administrator and various other roles, such as:-
Software Programmer
A few job responsibilities of a Software Programmer are code, test and troubleshoot programs utilizing the appropriate hardware, database, and programming technology. They refine data and format final product. Their job is also to maintain and modify programs; make approved changes by amending flow charts, develop detailed programming logic, and coding changes.
Software Engineer
A software engineer designs, develops and maintains software applications. The code framed by a software engineer is called programs. From the entry level programmer they can reach up to the level of senior system analyst and then become a consultant.
Software Developer
Software Developers are involved to Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents and perform coding to written technical specifications. They also need to investigate, analyse and document reported defects and perform maintenance programming and correction of identified defects, create, document, and implement unit test plans, scripts, and test harnesses..
System Analyst
The systems analyst have to be aware of all the available technology and the pros and cons of each.

INFRASTRUCTURE
All three Institutes of JIS Group Educational Initiatives offering Bachelor in Computer Application (BCA) & Masters in Computer Applications (MCA) courses have latest amenities like computer labs with latest hardware, software and internet facilities., classroom with required aids, libraries, seminar & conference halls, health care centres, hostel & accommodation facilities. The challenge that we have set for ourselves is to encourage, empower and inspire students to achieve highest standards of academic excellence.
Classroom with Required Aids
One of the main goals is to help students become reflective practitioners, viewing their classrooms as sites for ongoing research into their own subjects and assessment in order to increase student learning and understanding. In Classroom, students have the opportunity to investigate, experience, and apply effective assessment, teaching, and learning techniques, improve their participation in ways that meaningfully enhance their learning.

Audio-visual tools are used to enrich the learning experience at the Department. In order to orient the students mind set to real life applications, special emphasis is laid on project work. The main purpose of the Classroom teaching is to provide students with foundational knowledge of a wide range of pedagogical theories, ideas, and practices.
Our smart classrooms in all the campuses are equipped with an array of hi-tech audio-visual equipments such as White Board, LCD projector, Digital storage device along with DVD / CD player etc. .
The Auditorium to enhance knowledge beyond curriculum
MCA students need to participate at seminars, group discussions and symposium to enhance their knowledge & skill about latest opportunities in related industries. At JIS College of Engineering, we have seminar hall with seating capacity of 550 people, Narula Institute of Technology has seminar hall with seating capacity of 350 people and Guru Nanak Institute Technology has a seminar hall with 300 people seating capacity. These places are utilized for conducting seminar, presentation by eminent personalities, lectures by industry professionals. These are also utilized for different competitions like debate, quiz etc. as part of extra-curricular activities. .
Language Lab for Global Communication Skill
As mentioned earlier, the main objective of English Language Lab is to help students learn how to better communicate their thoughts and ideas to other people. In all out Institutes, we offer a high quality of instruction in the English Language. Our effective programmes have been designed to give students the linguistic and communicational skills, as well as the confidence, to compete globally.
